Texan normally refers to someone who originated from, or who lives in, the state of Texas in the United States of America.

History of the Term

The term is derived for the name of the state, Texas, which is in turn derived from the Spanish name for the once-Spanish province, Tejas. The Spanish took this name from a Caddoan word meaning "friends". Before the Texas War of Independence, Texas residents not of Hispanic descent were sometimes known as Texicans. During this time, and until annexation by the United States, nonhispanic Texas residents were also called Texians.

Texan may also refer to:

Aircraft

  • T-6 Texan, WWII era training plane
  • T-6 Texan II, airplane used by the United States Air Force for basic pilot training

Entertainment

Newspapers

  • The Daily Texan, the student newspaper of The University of Texas at Austin

Ships

  • USS Texan (ID-1354), a United States Navy cargo ship and troop transport in commission from 1918 to 1919

A. Find some videos of Johnson and try to imitate them. But dont try too hard, an overdone accent is a lot worse than a less obvious one.

Other fields were later discovered nearby in East Texas, West Texas, and under the Gulf of Mexico. The resulting "Oil Boom" permanently transformed the economy of Texas. Oil production eventually averaged three million barrels per day at its peak in 1972 the resulting royalties provided and continue to provide a considerable source of income to the Permanent University Fund for Texas' public universities.
